"That's
Entertainment" Gala
May 16, 2009
The Pleasanton Cultural Arts Foundation held
its second annual gala fundraiser, benefiting
the Firehouse Arts Center, on Saturday, May
16th at the Castlewood Country Club. "That's
Entertainment!" offered a prelude of the
types of entertainment and visual art that will
be featured at the new Firehouse Arts Center,
scheduled for completion in the spring of 2010.
The evening began with an exhibit and sale
of outstanding art created by local artists
(Click
here to see the art pieces that were shown). Many of the artists joined us to talk
to guests about their work. The People's Choice
Award went to "Morning Ballet," an
original oil painting by He Si of San Jose.
Once guests were seated in the ballroom they
enjoyed a lovely dinner and were treated to
entertaining performances, including a scene
from "Ramona Quimby," a recent Civic Arts
children's theater production; a series of
theater games from "Creatures of Impulse,"
our local teen improv group; and a medley of
show tunes from the renowned "Pleasantones"
featuring the talented singers Paula Wujek,
Debra Knox and Nina Cullen. Co-hosts Stewart
Lyle and Donna Turner kept the show moving.
Guests successfully bid on exciting get-away
packages as well as unique items and experiences
during the live auction portion of the evening.
The event was a tremendous success, both in
generating funds for the Firehouse Arts Center
project, as well as in treating guests to an
exciting sneak peek of the wonderful entertainment
and visual arts they will see once this wonderful
new cultural arts facility opens in downtown
Pleasanton in spring 2010.

Rage
Soccer Team Fundraiser
Sunday, November 2, 2008
Two members of the Pleasanton Rage U-11 Premier
Girls team, Sophie Brown and Kennedy Truex, undertook
a fundraiser to benefit the Firehouse Arts Center
as a part of their community service efforts for their
soccer club's Leadership Academy. The girls contacted
Sue Evans, a local photographer and fitness professional
to lead a hike. They collected pledges from family
and friends and set up displays at the soccer field
on game days to collect donations. Their original
goal was to raise $500 for the Firehouse Arts Center.
On Sunday, November 2nd, eleven girls from the team
and their families joined Sue Evans for a lovely day
hiking the Pleasanton Ridge in Augustin Bernal Park.
The girls' efforts were very successful as they raised
a total of $1,238! As a result, two seats in the theater
at the Firehouse Arts Center will be named for the
girls' soccer team. For more information on the Rage
Girls Soccer Association, go to www.pleasantonrage.org.

The
Firehouse Fling:
An Old Fashioned Family Fun
Day
Sunday, September 14, 2008
Over 1,000 children and parents
attended our Firehouse Fling event, held around
the site of the future Firehouse Arts Center. It
was non-stop fun, from sack races to watermelon
eating contests and more. Children loved the fish
pond and musical ponies games. Performances on
stage included a number from the Music Man Jr.,
an Irish dance performance, polynesian dancing
and punjabi folk dances. Children and adults participated
in the cake walks throughout the day for a chance
to win a fabulous cake and other great prizes provided
by local bakeries and other downtown merchants.
Arts & crafts activities were a big hit as
children lined up for a chance to learn how to
make paint, to draw, make a bead animal or stick
frame and many more fun activities. Kids had fun
playing lacrosse with the San Jose Stealth professional
lacrosse team and spinning the wheel to win fun
prizes at the Union Bank booth. Everyone joined
the BBQ goodies provided by Kinder Meats as well
as the cotton candy and sno cones. The pony rides
and petting zoo were very popular. Everyone had
a great day and learned more about the Firehouse
Arts Center, now under construction on Railroad
Avenue in Pleasanton.
