TITLE:
LENGTHENING SHADOWS
ARTIST: BETTIE GOOSMAN
"Rural scenes have always drawn me and I strive to open
people's eyes to the beauty around them that they are too busy
to really see and enjoy. Painting lets me forget everything else,
and looking at a completed painting fills me with peace and tranquility.
I am constantly amazed at how God intervenes and the joy He has
and is still giving me through painting — the beauty I
see and the people I meet."
Bettie was born and raised in South Africa and after her marriage
settled in Livermore, California. She grew up on a ranch and
relates emotionally to both California and South Africa, having
lived equal years in both countries.
She is self-taught and turned to art as means of recovering
from TB that she contracted while completing her D.Sc. Numerous
times her painting has helped her overcome setbacks and injuries.
Her time is divided between growing food crops and painting.
Her love of nature is evident in her paintings where she strives
to capture what is typical of a particular season, time or place.
She tends to favor paintings depicting depth and keeps searching
for great views. This requires patience, good timing, physical
stamina and then technical ability to achieve the right values. |
